Colonel Schlatter, as you certainly know, several (in excess of a half dozen) South Korean POWs have escaped from POW camps in North Korea over the past few years.

It shows us that prisoners are still being held, that they survive under less than wonderful conditions, and that they still look to come home. It also tells us that they are held for no apparent reason. . ."pearls of war", perhaps. What is your take on all that, and why couldn't Americans still be alive, particularly in North Korean ? Also, has anyone from the USG ever talked to ALL of these escapees and asked them about who they might have been held with ? What about the North Korean govenment officials that have defected ? High ranking guys who should know something. . . anyone talk to them yet ?

"A" for effort, "A" for excellance. I am thankful for those such as yourself who take time to inform and honor all americans.

I have always respected "Mr. legion in his own mind" until I drove up to Id.and learned there was a linch mom at All most heaven searching fo o'Bo. It seems he had lent his name to some shyster and sold a bunch of land on the side of a hill and then latched on to a young swet thing and headed for Sun City leaving behind his wife to try and strighten out another of his many screw-ups. But then this is another story.

Agin thank you for a well designed site.

I'm a 26 yr old young American. I served 4 on active duty in the Army and 4 more in the California Nat'l Guard. My father is retired Air Force. My brother is W3 in the Marines, in his 12th year. My uncle was Navy, and my father's uncle was a Marine at Omaha Beach in WWII. I read "Spite House", "Passing Through the Night" - all of the books published regarding this matter - and I have a vast interest in the POW/MIA situation, along with our nation's military history itself. I'm totally on your side about the Garwood issue. But, I do have concerns about the truth, etc., regarding our government's handling of this very delicate issue. It's a scary thought, being sent off to war and being left behind - especially in such an alien place like SE Asia. I'm confused. I don't approve of all the scamming liars out there who hawk the POW/MIA merchandise at the Lincoln Memorial on Memorial Day every year. I know that a lot of stuff has been fabricated to stir people's emotions. It's not fair to the families of the missing troops and airmen or to the current troops who face the idea of being sent off to war every day. I just wanted to convey my interest in and fear of this subject. It's very heart-wrenching and scary.

Joe,

You took a page straight from Hitlers playbbok with your comments on LTC James "Bo" Gritz. Tell a lie loud enough and often enough, sprinkle it with a little twisted truth... Presto, you have history.. Alot like our present involvement in Yugoslavia....

I love your analysis of his awards. I am wondering which of your ex-wives you found him screwing... Was it all of them? You are suffering from a deep sense of guilt over something and need to let it go.

I have known Bo for 20 years and he pulled my butt out of HACK more times than I care to remember in Panama. I would be dead now, or in the brig if it were not for Colonel Gritz.... Bo is about the most genuine person I have ever had the privledge to serve under, and while I was not in Nam, but I have seen him stare down Colombian drug lords, US Attorneys', President George Herbert Walker Bush, and the American justice system time and time again.

I was just doing what I was sent to do in Panama (just like in you guys in Nam) turns out there was a law against helping Contra's... But that is another story.

I hope you get help for what is ailing you..

Semper fi,

Mitch Anderton

As a sister of an MIA, I am not quite sure what to think about this site.

My brother, Mickey Allen Wilson was the commander of a helicopter that was shot down on 1/8/1973. There were 6 men on board. They were ALL missing until 1996 after I made my first trip to Vietnam to say good-bye.

Right after I came back, one body was recovered, then another and in April of this year, the remaining 4 men were buried at Arlington in a group burial. My brother was one of the group! They found some teeth and bone fragments, thats all. They said the bone fragments were too small for DNA testing. So, the teeth was all they had to go one. Can't you live without teeth?

I wrote a book called "Da Nang to Memphis". I'ts about my trips to Vietnam, my brother's Vietnamese wife and their son!

I found them after 25 years. I never knew about their son, but I did know that he had a wife. I did not even know her real name, but I took a picture of her to Da Nang and put it on TV and found her in Memphis.

Sincerely,

Linda G. Moreau

The only thing MISSING from this web-site is the truth. I have read www.ojc.org/powforum/schlatter and now know that your credibility on this issue is ZERO. You owe the American people a huge apology. I have informed my Congressman of this site and have asked him to open an investigation of your role in this particular situation. The American people deserve better than a lie-slinging fast talker to give them real information on POWs and MIAs. Your job was to PREVENT facts from coming out, and you did a good job at it. Now we know you for who you really are.

I read on 8/13 that Russia had returned a Hungarian POW who had been captured while fighting for the Nazis. He had reportedly been an "inmate" at a Russian psychiatric hospital. In lieu of the MANY reports of American POWs from WWII and Korea who had allegedly been shipped to the former Soviet Union, some sent to the gulags in Siberia, others to mental hospitals. . . do you think it would be prudent for our government to seek permission to "de-brief" this individual, asking him of any knowledge he might have of Americans he might have been held with ?

Gee Joe,paranoia seems to run deep in some of your responders! As a 23-year veteran of our last 3 wars, the question arises: "why would they hang on to our POW?" They could get much more by selling or trading them back to us. Having spent 7 years(61-63&64-69) in a Korean interrogation center, among the 1st questions asked of captured agents, defectors, fishermen, etc. (242 military & 715 civilians in my time) that came into the ROK pertained to any American POW or other detainees held in NK. Although some few had heard rumors, our frequent aerial photos of all of NK showed up none (other than the Pueblo crew). I guess it's natural to grasp at any straws if you've lost loved ones. Hang in there!

Have you ever noticed how Gritz seminars are kinda like rock con- certs. You can buy a book here for only $20 and a leaflet here for only $5.00 and a Tshirt for only $25.00. This man is only in it for the money. He has shown his true colors by the way he has treated his family. His last wife was probably tired of opening the damn mailbox and seeing letters from the IRS, Nazis (David Duke type of people) other scams, lawsuits, people wanting their money back. She was tired of being married to a charlitin. When the crap hit the fan and she wanted out, he was reportedly to have said that the devil must have her due. What Bo-she kissed your ass at those ridiculous seminars, tried to be a good wife while you were out running around and she wants out and she gets nothing. I have no respect for you, especially when you use to give your interpretations of world events. Next time you try to commit suicide hit yourself in the head or the heart. I have some mixed feelings and opinions regarding this site, but I can say that a lot of what is written here is found on other sites as well. I don't even like giving Bo recognition whether it be positive or negitive. The man served our country and now uses the knowledge that our country gave to him as a weapon. He has been in a lot of controversy over the years and he stands for what? He has been connected to all the "wrong" people in an attempt to begin a nation of his own beliefs. Can you say... "Anti-government"? On his web site he was advertising the sales of survival items. Why? Wht is this man holding trainings called "S.P.I.K.E."? Why is this man tied in with the Christian Identity if he was such the war hero that he plays to be? Why does he always misrepresent himself in uniform by not presenting his medals properly? Unless of course, HE himself nominated HIMSELF for the medals.... thus not having the knowledge of the proper presentation of these medals. This man has begun his own militia against Americans. He wants to live by his own rules and force his beliefs on others. Yeah, those who are followers end up getting sucked into the mix... but soon wake up to realize that they got screwed. I can give my own opinion on why all Bo's sites are down or "Under Construction"... there is a legal case going on in a town where one of Bo's "friends" is in question... a lot of information was retreived off of Bo's site to prove this mans involvement with Bo's "patriot movement" militia. Once the "friend" relized that the opposing party was retreiving information that would hurt the case, the sites disappeared. What I would like to know is what is the real story on the kidnapping case that happened in CT. The papers say that all parties involved, Bo, his son, and another man were aquitted due to a lack of evidence.... hmmmm... does this play a role in several other legal issues pertaining to Bo and some of his associates when it is time to enter the courtroom? I had also read somewhere that Bo was at it again attempting to build another "compound" somewhere in Texas, I am wondering what has become of that.. if anything. Why has Bo been the man to call upon when known militia members have gone off the deep end and stirred up controversy with our government? (i.e. Ruby Ridge, Eric Rudolph, etc.) And why if Bo has been so dedicated to finding our POW's was he enticed with cash, and again and again came home empyhanded? And what is he doing today about all this? Looks as though his dedicated has been placed elsewhere huh? People have their own opinions, but this man has, in my eyes, gotten WAY TOO MUCH publicity all for what? What has this man done that makes him so much more than any of the other men that fought for our country? Hell, he was one of the lucky ones as far as I am concerned... he made it home! I hear that Bo hands out "autographed" photos of himself... actually I KNOW this... how many of our REAL war heros do this? Just wondering....

Joe: I was Bo's partner for six years and handled the land sales in Idaho as well as worked as his partner in SPIKE and CFA. I have had a very bad fallout with him and have no doubt that he is a con-artist. But, in defense of him, I found some of your information twisted and incorrect. For example, you report as of 10/99 that people in Idaho were suing Bo because they couldn't get title to their land. Prior to my leaving in August 97 we had completed the transfer of all the property to a LLC in Nevada which effectuated the ability for people to get title. The problem prior to this is that the trusts that were set up to buy and sell the land could not obtain title insurance in Idaho. Thus, the quiet title action to turn the property over to the LLC and issue titles on the paid parcels. You may wish to contact Dennis Albers in Grangeville, Id for confirmation of this. If something new has happened since then I'm not aware of such.

If people are interested in my side of the story on real Bo Gritz, send $7.50 to Jerry Gillespie 1550 E. University Dr. #L-1 Mesa, Az. 85203.

The book lists Bo's assets, the Linda Wiegand trial, his divorce from Claudia, what really happened with the Almost Heaven property and much more.

Thank you

Mr. Gillespie:

Thank you for your comments re: Bo. My statement on folks suing Bo over Almost Heaven came from newspaper reports of the period.

The fact that an LLC (a limited liability coporation) has been formed is not likely to help many people. I would be surprised to find a title company that would issue title insurance on property that had been in a trust -- and not able to obatin title insurance -- and then was sold to an out-of-state LLC.

I am unemployed at present (Nov. 2000) but as soon as I get a few $$ ahead, I'll buy a copy of your book.

I just watched a show on Public television that showed many of the ex Pows talking about their horrible experiences in prison camps. It reminded me that I had worn a bracelet for a year or more back in 1972 and 73. My memory is so terrible I can't remember the name of the man who was on it. I'm going to try and find it and write to see what happened to him. I always wondered if he survived and got to go home. I thank the people who worked on the idea of the bracelets and I am very glad that I had the privelege of wearing one. The sacrifices these brave men made for their country makes me feel very proud of them and ashamed of myself for complaining about small things like a job I don't like or a house that seems too small. I wish I could tell everyone of them thank you and I admire and respect them with all my heart. Also, I greatly admire their wives for waiting, and hoping and praying for them. Even the ones who gave up after a while and remarried, because I know they tried.

I guess I am one of the people who you refer to as being part of a "cult" and I resent the reference very much. I have adopted 2 POW/MIA's and have worn a POW bracelet for years. I write letters to the government officials (they may not, as you say, actually DO anything to bring back POW/MIA's or to see that the search for them is continued but I will continue writing !) It's too bad that the U.S. government has such a history of dishonesty to the families of POW/MIA's... maybe if there had been more truth and less bullshit there wouldn't be a need to question so much of what we're told about POW/MIA's. I'd think that as a vet yourself, you'd be glad to know that there are citizens in America who would not forget you if you hadn't returned, and who would try their best to make sure that you weren't deserted in a foreign land. My opinion on the whole issue is that there was a cover-up when the war ended and to save face the government has continued to hold true to that cover-up rather than admit that, in our haste to leave Vietnam, some military personnel was left behind. Otherwise, I don't understand why SO many official defense documents are still considered classified OR have been "lost".

Enjoyed your articles on "All the Bad Actors in One Place" and " Revised: Earl Hopper Jr." Mark Smith is a big disappointment to me. I flew several missions in support of him just prior to his capture in 1972. The time he spent as a pow must have really fried his brain. A real shame! The list of items from the wreakage of Hopper's F-4 tells it all. Sure wish I could see a list of items recovered from Spectre 17s crash site, it should be extensive from an AC-130. Keep up the good work. I really enjoy your Whats New Site. Jim Spier

Back in August, I wrote about the Hungarian POW who had been held in the former Soviet Union as a POW (turned mental patient because no one could understand him)ever since the end of WWII. You wrote back and said "efforts are already under way". . .etc., etc., to de-brief him. Well, that was four months ago. . . what are the results of the interview ? Are the translated transcripts available for review. . .or is it classified for reasons of national security ?

Bringing the light of truth to us poor stupid Americans? Is this your goal in life? As you point at the "cultists" screaming "Liars, you take advantage of the POW/MIA issue for no other reason than $$$$." Joe Schlatter? why do you really put this time and effort into this web site? You must have a reason other than just being concerned about "your truth" being aired? hmmm? While some of the statements you make in this folly are without a doubt true..... much of it is nonsense, the rantings of a man who has proclaimed himself to be the "true light" of the POW/MIA issue. Sure Joe, the Vietnamese only hold French POW's the Koreans only hold S. Korean POW's...one other thing Joe, the Quang Document you state ...."The document uses the term "prisoners of war." The Vietnamese never referred to American captives as "prisoners of war;" they used the phrase "captured American military personnel." ....JOE??? Duh!! the document was written first in Vietnamese..then translated to Russian, then to English!!!!Anyone who takes the time to analyze your rebuttles on this site would have to be a fool not to see they are reading a fools work. Colonel, by now you have either watched or learned of the 1/16/01 episode of "60 Minutes II" that detailed the recent re-classification of Desert Storm pilot Michael Speicher from Killed in Action to MIA. The Navy's explanation: "We have no hard proof that he died".

What a profound and telling comment. That's essentially what "cult members" have been screaming about all these years. Explain to us as only you can the difference between Speicher's situation and several discrepancy cases from Vietnam in which we not only DID NOT have evidence of death, but DID HAVE evidence of their capture ? Why for instance, would we suddenly re-classify someone from MIA status to KIA/BNR solely on the passage of time ? We've seen the Vietnamese release French prisoners after nearly thirty years. . .what evidence do we have of Colonel Charles Shelton's death, for instance ? Of David Hrdlicka ? or Harley Hall ? etc., etc., etc. Not only are we uncertain that died, we know that they in fact survived their shoot-down and were ALIVE in captivity. How does our government justify that ?

For those of you interested to see the "1973 TH" E&E Signal, and to find out more about "Spectre 17" shoot down go to www.angelfire.com/ma2/georgemacdonald/. I would also like to correct Mr Schlater, as there were no dental records found at the Spectre 17 crash site identified as Thomas Hart's. In fact 11 of the 13 remains were found scientifically impossible to determine. As in most cases turned out from CILHI no DNA testing was conducted, and each of the 13 remains were charred bone fragments. I would be happy to send you Mr. Schlater, the 1985 "20/20" episode that shamed CILHI on the Spectre 17 indentifications. Proudly, Wendy Liles, daughter of Capt. Robert L. The web-site is WWW.OJC.ORG/POWFORUM/SCHLATTER For those of you writing term papers or just surfing in, please understand that the man hosting this web-site was paid by the U.S. Government for years to EXPLAIN AWAY each and every live-sighting report that ever surfaced. I would like to share my thoughts and the bracelet that became and is still a very important part of my life. Where do I go to find his family. Just an idle observation: During the Senate Select Committe Hearings, two former Secretaries of Defense testified that they believed POWs were left behind. General Westmoreland has also shared that same opinion, as did former CIA Director William Casey. Why should we believe some rear-echelon desk-jockey Colonel's opinion when these superior ranked individuals (your bosses, I believe)all felt differently than you ? They were all in a better position to know the actual truth, don't you think ? What could you possibly know that they didn't ?

Thank you for providing an important service. I can always tell when I've scored some points when this taxpayer-financed public servant calls me "uninformed and basically dumb" and then creates a separate site just to respond to ME.

It is important to note that he responded only to what he COULD respond to, completing ignoring my reference to WWW.OJC.ORG/POWFORUM/SCHLATTER which details how he was caught in a BALD-FACED LIE. He responded the way the USG has for years on this subject: When you can't attack the information, you try to discredit the source. Colonel, based on your lies in the APODOCA case, YOU have no credibility.

Let me CONDENSE his response to my comments on General Westmoreland and the two Secretaries of Defense who testified to the Senate Select Committee that they BELIEVED POWs had been left behind: "Their views were old and outdated, and they only knew what I told them, anyway."

As for CIA Chief Casey, the Colonel's sole explanation was that the Congressman who reported his comments is a LIAR. If you can't attack the information, discredit the source. It's worked for thirty years, why change tactics now ?

I happened to reach this site by accident, but I have to say that I am very impressed with your thought and decency on this subject. For many years, it has amazed me that our own Senators and Congressman have dragged our government and veterans through the mud for unseemly personal advantage. But even more amazing has been the lack of rebuttal in the press. These conspiracy theories are too cruel to let continue, and I thank you for speaking out. This is not a Republican or Democratic issue, this is an issue of decency, and it truly sickens me that those, like McCarthy, who would wrap themselves most tightly in the flag, would so casually dishonor for the sake of financial or political ambition

I was rather amused at your protrayal of Maj Mark Smith. You indicate that he is a drunk that hangs out the bars of Bangkok. I happen to know Mark a little better than you. I work as a network engineer for a company in Bangkok and I live about 75 meters from him and visit with him daily. He does NOT hang out in bars. The only bar he does go to (once every two or three months) is one at a tourist hotel, where he sings with a band that he helped start years ago. Joe, some of your other "facts", like the one I just referenced, are out and out lies. I have to wonder what your interest is, in trying to perform this character assasination. Do you still work for the DIA? Is it professional jealousy? I know that you never earned any awards for valor, even though other MI officers did but, does that mean you should lie about those brave servicemen that shed blood for this country? I'm not talking about the paper cuts that you got but, real wounds obtained in combat.

You probably weren't expecting someone who lives just 75 meters away from Major Smith to read that and catch you so red-lipped, were you ? I agree with Mr. Rifenberg. . . you can't attack the facts, so you try to destroy the sources. . .by any means whatsoever, even if that means complete and total fabrication. Served in Vietnam from Mar 66 to Jul 66 with 2/5 in the Chu Lai area. Jul 66 to Feb 67 with Col Bell 1/1 near Hoi An. Spend about three month as NCOIC of what later became to be known as a Combined Action Platoon and worked in the S-3 where I plotted all friendly forces and their Patrols. Returned to Vietnam in Sep 70 and served with the 3rd CIT in Vietnam until the team departed Vietnam and returned Okinawa in May 71 continued serving with the 3rd CIT until Oct 72. From Oct 72 to May 76 at the 2nd CIT and Froce Troops. From May 76 to Sep 79 served with the 11th CIT, HQFMFPAC. Again with the 3rd CIT from Sep 79 to Sep 80. Again with 11th CIT from Sep 80 to 83 and 3rd CIT from 83 to 88. As you can see from my resume I was in the right places at the right times to have some knowledge of Marine MIA/POWs. In 72 and 73 we prepared for and conducted Operation Homecoming. In 76 the 11th CIT had several safes full of files on MIA/POWs and there was three volumes on Garwood plus numerous tape recordings of his broadcasts. I read all three volumes and listened to all the tapes. Now I don't have total recall but I must say I found your information on him to be very factual. We also had books containing pictures of all the POW/MIAs and I can honestly say most of these pictures were so old or boot camp photos that making identifications from them was very unreliable. More than one family have identified the same pictures as their son. I live in Hawaii and have recieved several briefings from the ID Lab here. Most people are unaware of their efforts to bring our Marines/Airmen/Soldiers and Saliors home. Maybe a webpage lists their efforts and accomplishments would enlighten some of those who blasted you in you Guest Log. Dear Colonel Smoke 'n Mirrors: Now that you have devoted yet another site to respond to comments that "merit no response", let's get one thing straight. Nothing that I ever say about you is "gratuitous". Why don't you respond ONCE AND FOR ALL to the fact that YOU LIED THROUGH YOUR TEETH when you denied ordering the FBI to destroy the map OVERLAY that was recovered from Major Apodaca's crash site ? You DENIED ordering this, yet the FBI Latent Fingerprint Section confirms it (file # 32-26795). I have been reading this guest book for some time, and have noticed several references to www.ojc.org/powforum.schlatter a web-site that DOCUMENTS your manipulation of facts and details. Anyone who even THINKS you should be believed should read this well-documented piece. And the rest of us will simply wait for you to explain away another lie, COLONEL. Don't attack the credibility of someone else this time. . .just explain the lie, okay ?

Thanks for your efforts to provide facts to what is clearly an emotional issue. I commend you for providing a forum to those who engage mostly in ad hominem attacks. The contrast is quite enlightening.

Very informative with links to other interesting sites. As a german national and part of generation "1968" I found this link searching for books on the Vietnam War Area also incl. POW/MIA articles. It is amazing for me as a "foreigner" to find out after 30 years how much we were influenced by the media. Keep up the good work. Marianne

COL Schlatter,

Your site is interesting and thought-provoking, although I am not sure exactly where I would come down on the POW-MIA issue; I tend to suspect that there were at least some left behind, although I have serious doubts about the survival of any men at present.

Your site does, however, have some rather glaring inaccuracies, however. In the report on MAJ Mike Smith, you write:

<<SFDK, Thailand, and Worldwide Changes Smith's claims as to his experiences in the Special Forces Detachment - Korea (SFDK) are equally bogus. He was assigned to SFDK in 1982. The commander was LTC Bob Howard, a Medal of Honor recipient from Korea. Howard had some personal problems involving his family and his drinking. Howard was serving an unaccompanied tour in Korea -- that means his wife and family were back in the States and there were some family problems. Howard had developed a drinking problem and his family separation made things worse. He was sent back to Walter Reed for treatment of alcohol abuse and Smith became the acting commander SFDK>>

According to the Center of Military History, no Robert (or Bob) Howard recieved the Medal of Honor during the Korean War. There was a Robert Howard (later COL) who recieved the Medal during the Vietnam War. In _Stolen Valor: How the Vietnam Generation Was Robbed of its Heroes and its History_ by B. G. Burkett and Glenna Whitley, which you highly commend on your site, COL Robert Howard is praised as one of the two most highly decorated veterans of the war (Col George "Bud" Day, USAF [Ret.]) being the other one.

I've never met MAJ Smith or COL Howard, but I do have a problem with a senior officer such as yourself making a fairly egregious error (the wrong war -- and that is easily confirmed) and then assaulting the character of a holder of this nation's highest decoration.

Stumbled onto this site looking for relatives in North Carolina. Bill Hendon is my cousin and I'm not sure how to take the little bit I read. I do know that he was a Congressman and involved with the POW-MIA mission. Our fathers were brothers and my father ( I am extremely proud to say) is Aircraft Commander Harry Leon "Pappy" Hendon, USAF Retired (deceased). I'm certainly glad HE cannot read it!

My mistake. COL Bob Howard received the MOH for action in Vietnam and I have corrected my error. The remainder of the passage is not an attack -- it is fact.

Full of good info. I checked out a couple of the "conspiracy" sites prior to finding this one. I also read the 'schlatter' page at ojc.org. Pure crok-o-doodoo. No supporting evidence for their position, just a personal attack. Gotta keep the emotion high to keep recruiting and contributions up! Keep their feet to the fire, Joe. Jay USAF Ret.

Ref; John Obassy/Robin Gregson and the MIA video. Following his suicide in California in November 1992 I noticed a number of parallels between Robin Gregson and the late multi-aliased English "businessman" Ian Spiro. Like Gregson in Laos Spiro had created a fictitious life for himself in the Lebaonon (which features in the MIA video story). He duped Colonel North (who shared an office with Dick Childress) that he had some influence in the hostage situation because he had been to school with members of the Kuwaiti Royal Family. (In reality he had attended a jewish public school.) Spiro was involved in various "Hostage" scams (see David Jacobsen's memoirs.) Terry Anderson's sister Peggy Say was approached by one "Michael Trumpower" with some bizarre hostage rescue scheme. "Trumpower" shared with Say details of an initiative he had been involved in with Ross Perot. (Say called Perot's office who did not recognise the name "Michael Trumpower") Was the MIA video scam an attempt to generate a ransom for the Beirut hostages?

After almost 30 years, I came across an article in the June 98 Readers Digest about POW/MIA's. It lead me to No-Quarters.org which inturn to here. I've had 2 bracelets since the early 70's and have wondered over the years what had become of the persons named on them. Today, I found one of them and I'll try to contact the family to get a mailing address to mail it to them. After being in the Army for 12 years, these bracelets have always meant hope for me. Hope that if I were to become missing, I wouldn't be forgotten. For these soldiers, although maybe just a name on a bracelet, they have not been forgotten.

Thank You for being here...

I have to admit, I am not an expert on the Vietnam War. I am looking through MIA sites for information on a particular man. My neighbor found a bracelet in her belongings, I looked up the name and this man is still listed as MIA. I am looking for information about him. His name is CDR JAmes Bauder 9-21-66. Would anyone be willing to direct me to the proper place?

Thank you... Laura

Just on break from work and found this site. I know you. I worked in the Sigint Requirments Branch of DIA when you were in charge of the POW/MIA section. Worked closely with your people to get your requirements on the book with NSA. After five years at DIA I was selected to work at Stony Beach in Thailand (1992-1994). I was not impressed with that operation. Col. John Cole greeted me at the door with "Oh, so you are the hotshot major we have heard so much about." Things went down from there. The whole Stony Beach effort was a political disaster IMHO. They did not seek the truth but danced to the prevailing politics of the time. It was a very unpleasant time for me. I did get to work with Dr. Timothy Castle and some other "good" guys. Anyway, your site has been bookmarked and I will return often. Also, I know Mark Smith. He is a true believer (this, of course, does not mean that what he believes is "true") . I also had the pleasure of meeting "Bo" Gritz at a local gun show here in Tulsa last months. Spent about 30 minutes visiting with him. Actually he visited with me because he does not listen - just talks. Nice guy (as in a true believer).

While interviewing a former SF guy in Chiang Rai, I found out about a "stay behind" in Laos. This guy sounded like those "servicemen" talked about by Necci. MMMmmm. I wonder if these guys are POWs or just guys who like the Lao ladies? Believe it is the latter.

Again, great site. I currently live in Bangkok but am a grad student now at OSU-Tulsa. Drop me a line if you get a chance.

Impressive - I haven't read everything but at a VFW last night I was given a POW bracelet so that I could carry the honor of Capt. Jack R. Harvey (11-28-72). How do I find out more about Capt. Harvey? I know he is from Gardiner,ME but much more than that I don't know.

Thank you for this site. I grew up in the 60s and Vietnam was and is a pivotal point in my life. Especially when I meet Veterans who now after 30+ years may be healing and willing to talk.

God Bless.

I do believe that there’s still POW`s in Vietnam and other countries. We have a similar case in Norway where Norwegian men and women escaped to Russia/Soviet from Norway during the German occupation 1940-45, many of these was arrested by the Soviet secret service before the training to become partisans or after they came back from missions in occupied Norway. Other Norwegians did also disappeared when they was arrested by the Soviet when they was out on the sea to fish. ( This is Norwegians basically from Finnmark the northern state with a borderline to Russia )There was also Norwegian settlers that was trapped behind the Soviet border after the 1917 revolution who was sent to the Gulag camps in Siberia. The Norwegian effort to find these people, and find out where they are and what that happened with them have been shameless. Only because they don’t want and wanted to offend the Russian/Soviet government. Its been proved that there still is family members alive after many off these Norwegians that was captured, and many of those who were captured and survived the gulag camps lived in the soviet union to their death trapped behind the iron curtain. The effort by the Norwegian government to bring these back have been a shame, they have done from nothing to very little. So, why cant it be US, French, Australians or others POW`s in SEA? I do believe it is. I do also believe that many remains of POW/MIA never will be returned because then they will see that these soldiers have been alive a long time after the war, because they died in a prisoner camp. I am a soldier my self, when I see what my government did for those that was captured by the Russian, I can only say one thing. I will never been taken alive in a combat situation. I will also honour those of you that came back and those who didn’t. I have met many fine US service men and women’s during my years in the Norwegian army, and I have talked to many fine family members of active and retired service men/women that is proud of the country and your armed forces. You are truly a Patriotic country.

As a former Marine, 1/7 company A, and a vetern of foriegn war ( Gulf War.), my heart goes out to all of our fallen brethern, it saddens me to think that we have left men who put their lives on the line for a cause this country had. I pray that some day the truth will liberate the memories of these brave and loyal men.

( ha ha ha) always so lucky in Nam...... Nam was a bad deal all-around for everyone, If we'd have kept our word to Ho....when we had OSS people there(WWII)....and have NOT let the French back into Indo-China....It might have never envolved more than a few thousand Americans. Breaking our word cost the Vietnamese people, the French and it certinaly cost us US and anyone else that provided troops. ....made a Civil-War were one need not have ever occured. Carl L. If all living POWs were returned, then they(NVA, VC...etc.) must have let a lot of them die...and murdered
